PUNGAAR, meaning 'flower' in Gondi, is an initiative that aims to spread the fragrance of self reliance and a bright future for the tribals of Bastar, Chhattisgarh. It was started in October 2007 by Prabhat Pattavi, with the aim of improving the living standards of the tribals of Bastar. His wife Meghna actively supports him in promoting Pungaar. The operations of Pungaar are currently based out of Raipur.
Pungaar is helping artists making wrought iron and bell metal handicrafts by marketing their products in geographies outside the reach of these poor hard-working artisans. Here are few of them.
