Eikopakka is a small town in Andhra Pradesh, which is now famous in India and abroad for its beautiful toys.
What makes Etikopakka toys appealing and at the same time different from other craft forms is its simplicity,
and beauty of the natural shades used. Though the toys look simple, the lacquering process is not simple at all!

The toys are made of soft and fine grained wood. The resin used for lacquering is mixed with vegetable dyes
to give the pleasing shades of earthy yellow, chrome red and leafy green. The paints are thus eco friendly
and non toxic. Lacquering of the toys is done on mechanical or hand worked lathes, latter being preferred for
delicate items. Dry lac is pressed against the wood and then exposed to heat. The wood is continually rotated
for letting the lac spread uniformly. The variety of colors used on a single product and the uniform radiance
is a testimony for the skill of the artisan.
The Etikopakka artisans are being guided by few schools of fine art and design to create fresh designs.
